Cardiff City and Rangers “fight with six clubs” for Stoke City striker

Cardiff City are reportedly one of six clubs vying for recently released striker Tyrese Campbell.

The 24-year-old is looking to make a fresh start after being released from Stoke City in the summer and the Bluebirds are believed to be one of many clubs interested in his signature.

According to the Daily Mail, top Scottish club Rangers is one of the interested parties. They tried to close a deal back in 2020. There is also interest from the Championship.

In addition to City, Preston North End, Queens Park Rangers, Sheffield United and West Bromwich Albion are also considered “admirers” of Campbell, who played 164 games for the Potters during his eight-year tenure and scored 36 goals.

Despite his departure, he clearly still has a deep affection for the Potters and posted an emotional farewell on social media when his exit was announced in May.

He wrote: “I came to Stoke City as a boy with a dream of playing in the Premier League. Although I wish it had happened more often for the club and myself, I will be eternally grateful to those who made it possible.

“I leave a man with memories that will stay with me for the rest of my life. I met teammates who will be friends and brothers for life. Thank you to the fans who supported me through good times and bad. It meant the world to me.”

“And I thank my teammates, coaches, staff and everyone I have had the pleasure of working with for everything. I will never forget my time here and the club has a special place in my heart.”

Cardiff have already signed Chris Willock and Calum Chambers this summer, but a striker remains at the top of Erol Bulut’s wish list.

The Bluebirds are back in preseason training this weekend, and on Sunday Bulut’s men will face Hamburger SV in Austria.
