WEST CHESTER — On Friday night at Hoopes Park, the first-place Red Men showed why it will be very difficult to dethrone them as champions of the West Chester Adult Baseball League in the upcoming playoffs. The Red Men used four different pitchers to throw a combined no-hitter and yielded 14 hits as they rolled over Brandywine Designs, 10-0.
The Red Men (16-5) started with Drew Turner, a product of the University of Pittsburgh, who threw four hitless innings with six strikeouts. Turner was followed by Dan Jacobs, Cam Eliici and Matt Diottavio, who each threw an inning to silence the Brandywine Designs hitters.
“My changeup was really good tonight and I threw a lot of them,” Turner said. “I felt really comfortable with that pitch. I also switched to the slider a little bit. It’s a great experience playing with all new guys and I love being around them. I threw a no-hitter three years ago in summer ball and we threw one tonight.”
Brandywine’s (7-12) starter Sam Beadle struggled from the start, walking four batters and allowing four hits in the bottom of the first inning as the Red Men took a commanding 6-0 lead. Armon Asdourain hit a two-run single to left field to complete the revolt.

“I hit a fastball that was high and far away,” Asdourian said. “I threw my hands at the ball and caught enough of it to get it into left field. I guess I got a little lucky, but I’ll take it. We’re playing really good baseball right now and hopefully we can take it into the playoffs and repeat as champions.”
Turner ran well for the Red Men. The only trouble came in the top of the fourth inning. Turner walked John Iezzi and Connor Booth, putting men on first and second base when there was only one out.
But Turner struck out the dangerous Mark Bernhard and then ended the threat by getting Angus Moore to third base, thus thwarting one of the few scoring opportunities for Brandywine.
The Red Men decided the game by scoring three runs in the fifth inning against Iezzi. The big hits were an RBI double by Ryan Howe and a two-run single by Jason Moore. The Red Men scored another run in the sixth inning to make the game 10-0.
Jacobs managed a hitless fifth inning and Elici did the same in the sixth. Diottavio came in for the seventh inning and shut down the team to complete the impressive victory.
“If we continue to have good pitchers like we did tonight and our pitchers throw strikes, we’re going to be a tough team to beat,” said Red Men manager Charles Cooper.
