The Movies for Grownups Awards come less than a month before the 2019 Oscars, where Mortensen will be honored after a turbulent awards season in which Green Book survive his share of controversy.

In November, Mortensen apologized for using the N-word after a screening of Green book.

The actor was along with his co-star Mahershala Ali at a Q&A session for the potential Oscar nominee, which deals with issues such as racism and racial segregation.

In a statement to PEOPLE, Mortensen apologized for his choice of words and said: “Last night I participated in a question and answer session moderated by Elvis Mitchell following a screening of Green Book in Los Angeles. To point out that many people used the N-word casually at the time the film is set, which is 1962, I used the full word.”

“I am very sorry for using the whole word last night and I will not say it again,” he said.

Green Book is now in theaters.
