Angels for Animals and the Columbiana County Humane Society raise funds at the Kiwanis Club Antiques and Crafts Show in Lisbon, Ohio

LISBON, Ohio (WKBN) — Two local animal shelters raised money at the Kiwanis Antique and Craft Show on Saturday.

The Columbiana County Humane Society is at capacity and has run out of funds. To raise money and give some animals a home, the shelter was at the craft fair and sold baked goods.

The money collected will be used to pay the animal shelter’s outstanding veterinary bills and to care for the animals that are still there.

“Adoptions are going pretty well, but we still have a lot of animals to adopt – a lot of cats, a lot of dogs. We have about 26 dogs and we have somewhere between 80 and 90 cats,” said Samantha Johnson of the animal welfare organization.

The shelter is not currently accepting any animals until it has found safer, more loving homes for the animals it already has.

Angels for Animals was also present at the craft fair, selling collectibles and belongings left behind by a former volunteer who recently passed away.

Kate Haplea died in June, leaving all items in her home to Angels for Animals. She was a volunteer and managed retail at the shelter.

“Rescuing animals is wonderful, but it’s really, really expensive. So it costs a lot of money to run the place,” said Diane Less of the animal shelter.

All proceeds from Haplea’s estate from the sale will go to Angels for Animal’s general fund.
