Delhi Metro introduces QR-based prepaid ticketing system for commuters

Delhi Metro introduces QR-based prepaid ticketing system for commuters

Delhi Metro commuters will soon be able to make journeys using quick response codes on their smartphones that have a value stored similar to a smart card, officials said on Saturday.

DMRC managing director Vikas Kumar told PTI, “We are planning to introduce a QR code for stored values. It will be like a card which is not limited to a single journey. It will also reduce the number of paper printouts.”

The feature will be available on all platforms that currently offer DMRC QR tickets, Kumar added.

According to DMRC, the new system will allow passengers to top up their QR wallet whenever needed through the mobile app, eliminating the need to purchase a new physical or virtual QR ticket for each journey.

This feature eliminates the need to carry a physical pass or ticket, the official said.
