‘I will love you forever’

‘I will love you forever’

Emily Cave Boit is reflecting on her fifth wedding anniversary with former Edmonton Oilers player Colby Cave. On Friday, she posted a photo carousel on Instagram that included several photos from their wedding day, a sweet handwritten note from him, as well as a touching caption about their love.

In her post, Cave Boit included three photos of herself and her late husband walking in a field and embracing. The last photo of her post included a note in which Cave expressed his admiration and love for Cave Boit.

“My unicorn. My amazing, beautiful, red-headed unicorn. You may think I use that term too often, but there is much more to it than just referring to a mythical creature,” Cave wrote in the note. “A unicorn is described as a symbol of purity and grace. I couldn’t have found a more fitting description for you as a person. You always put other people before yourself and I am always amazed at how humbly you do it. You take my breath away every time I look into those beautiful brown eyes.”

In the caption of her post, Cave Boit reflected on how strong her bond with her former partner still remains, even though Cave died of a sudden brain hemorrhage in April 2020 at the age of 25.

“Happy heavenly fifth wedding anniversary, Colb. You appeared to me in a dream recently and sent me many signs. You knew I needed them. Hearing your laugh again makes me shiver just thinking about it,” she wrote in her caption, adding how grateful she is for the love he has given her.

“I will always be proud to be your wife and, tragically, your widow. No one will ever stop me from sharing your story, our story. It deserves to be shared, not hidden. No matter how much time passes, my love and pride for you will never fade. I will love you forever. I will miss you always.”

Cave Boit also shared the post on her Instagram stories and wrote: “Thinking of you a little more today.”

In the comments on her post, people expressed their condolences, with some even sharing their own stories similar to hers, offering her their support.

“Thank you for being so vulnerable and sharing your life with us! Praying for you as you navigate the days ahead, celebrating the joys and remembering the sorrows. I am thankful for Colin and Colby. You are beautiful!” one person shared.

“Crazy! Today would also be my anniversary with my late husband! I have followed your journey of loss and finding love again and relived your every step. Thank you for being real and authentic,” added another.

On June 7, Cave Boit married 31-year-old author Colin Boit in a romantic wedding at Cielo Farms in Malibu, California. In another Instagram post, she wrote that it was “the most perfect and wildest night of our lives.”

“Nice to see you smiling again. You deserve it. Congratulations,” one person wrote.

“You can’t imagine how nice it is to see you so happy again,” echoed another.

“The joy and courage you have despite tragically knowing time is not guaranteed shines. Sending you all the love and happiness in your next chapter,” someone added.
