Khalid is grateful for his musical journey on “Ground”

Khalid remains one of the biggest R&B/pop stars of this generation. Even though you don’t hear his name as often as you did in the late 2010s, he hasn’t disappeared. Even without a new album since 2021, he’s still peaking on streaming services and radio. However, the El Paso, Texas native is set to step up Scenic Drive (The Band) very soon. In fact, the LP drought will end on August 2nd if he comes through with Sincerelyhis third studio tape. So far, the singer of “Young Dumb & Broke” has released two singles for it, “Please Don’t Fall In Love With Me” and “Adore U”. But Khalid is back for third singles with “Ground”.

Overall, this track shows the veteran hitmaker at his most introspective as he describes a past psychedelic trip. According to UproxxKhalid shared an announcement of “Ground” as well as the story behind it. “Years ago, in moments of uncertainty, I really began to question what my purpose was as an artist,” he began. “I began my personal journey through psychedelics in 2021 and I will never forget the moment this song popped into my head. Just like the random mountain I climbed in Arizona, life is an uphill battle. As beautiful as the summit may seem, I am so happy to embrace the ground I walk on.”

If you read the lyrics superficially, it sounds like another relationship cut. But if you keep this explanation in mind, you realize how clever the writing actually is. He sings about himself throughout the 3:07 minutes of the track. Overall, it is a beautiful song by Khalid and it really evokes a sense of confidence and that you should never give up on the road to wealth. With songs like this, Sincerely looks like a top record for him.

“Ground” – Khalid

Cotton candy-colored skies brought a smile to even my broken muse’s face
Something about sunset I like and brings out the best in you
I could stare at you all evening, how you merge with the mountainside
Now I concentrate on my breathing and wonder how I got so high
