Live updates: News from Biden’s campaign, Trump and Vance rally in Michigan

Vice President Kamala Harris speaks during a campaign rally in Fayetteville, North Carolina on July 18.

The 2024 presidential candidates will return to the campaign trail on Saturday after a week of much newness, especially in the wake of the Republican National Convention and growing disagreement among Democrats over their candidate.

Here’s what’s happening today:

Vice President Kamala Harris is expected to headline and speak at a campaign fundraiser in Provincetown, Massachusetts.

State Governor Maura Healey, Democratic Senator Ed Markey, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and his husband Chasten Buttigieg will also speak. Actresses Jennifer Coolidge and Adrienne Warren are scheduled to appear as “special guests.”

Harris is campaigning while President Joe Biden continues his recovery from Covid-19, which forced him into isolation in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, this week.

All eyes are on the Vice President, as Biden’s continued candidacy is uncertain – and many Democrats see her as the most likely alternative.

Meanwhile, the Republican Party former President Donald Trump and his vice presidential candidate, Senator from Ohio, J.D. Vancewill be in the swing state of Michigan for their first joint rally.

The event in Grand Rapids is Trump’s first campaign rally since the attempted assassination at a rally in Pennsylvania a week ago and the subsequent Republican convention. Streets around Van Andel Arena will be closed and security around the indoor event will be tight, local authorities said.

Vance has been provided a private plane by the Trump campaign – a 737 with Trump-Vance decals – that will take him to Michigan, two sources with direct knowledge say.
