A Transport management system (TMS) is a logistics platform that helps to plan, execute and optimize the physical transport of goods. Special transport management systems first appeared in the 1980s and were mainly adopted by larger companies. TMS market has evolved considerably since then and cloud-based solutions now offer scalable alternatives for companies of all sizes and in all industries.

TMC (a division of CH Robinson), Mastery, MercuryGate and 3G are other examples of players that focus primarily on TMS. Major US cloud infrastructure and software provider Oracle is active in this space with its Oracle Transportation Management offering, which is deployed in all geographic markets. Germany-based enterprise software giant SAP also offers SAP Transportation Management globally.

The European TMS market is also served by players such as Transporeon (now owned by Trimble), Ecovium, Soloplan, LIS, AEB and Solvares based in Germany, the French groups SINARI, AKANEA and Generix, Mandata, HaulTech and 3T in the UK, Alpega headquartered in Austria, Boltrics, Art Systems and Navitrans based in the Benelux countries, Opter and nShift in the Nordic countries, Inelo headquartered in Poland, the Italian company TESISQUARE, Alerce based in Spain and Andorra-based AndSoft, the latter active across Europe and beyond.

Mr Andersson concluded:

“Some of the most notable market developments in recent years include Trimble’s acquisition of Transporeon, bringing together two acquisitive companies with leading positions in North America and Europe respectively, and Trimble’s divestiture of Kuebix – which it acquired several years earlier and later planned to close – to FreightWise in 2023.”
