We may still be in the middle of summer, but it’s never too early for college football fans to start getting excited about the next season. Fans of the newly expanded SEC have another reason to get ready for football: A brand new hype song from country star Luke Combs.

The SEC Network shared a clip of the new song on their Tik Tok account, and it’s a good one! Following the Grammy-nominated success of Luke’s cover of “Fast Car,” the singer covers another hit, this time by legendary rocker Tom Petty.

The video features footage from SEC football games paired with Luke’s new rendition of “Runnin Down a Dream,” a remake of the 1989 song. And while Tom Petty may not have had sports in mind when he wrote the song, the hopeful lyrics and catchy melody definitely resonate with the sports world (it’s also been used as the theme song for the NBA and NASCAR).

SEC Network captioned the post, “Turn this one up! Our new SEC football anthem is here!” Fans of college football and country music love the combination, leaving comments like, “I’m not usually a fan of many covers but Luke Combs rocked this cover and it’s awesome” and “Goosebumps! Can’t wait.” Another wrote, “Is there anything better than this?” Another fan commented, “Goosebumps.”

The song is part of the new Petty Country: A Country Music Tribute to Tom Petty. The album features cover versions of Tom Petty’s hits by artists such as Chris Stapleton, Wynonna Judd and Lainey Wilson, Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton and other country icons.
