Iron Maiden singer Bruce Dickinson on his most embarrassing moment

Iron Maiden singer Bruce Dickinson has revealed his death-defying antics, his most embarrassing moment and the most expensive thing he has ever bought in a new interview with The Guardian.

When asked when he came closest to death, Dickinson replied: “I slept at the controls of an M11, had an engine fire in a light aircraft over the Atlantic, drove unprotected through enemy fire to perform in wartime Sarajevo – the list goes on. But I had stage 3 throat cancer and was cured by fantastic British doctors.”

The singer then revealed the most expensive thing he ever bought: “An eight-seater Cessna Golden Eagle. I flew it across the Atlantic and did two US tours and two European tours. Eventually I sold it and took a job as a pilot for an airline where I was paid to fly, not the other way around.”

And Dickinson also shared with readers the most embarrassing moment of his life: “I once puked on the shoes of one of my singing heroes, Deep Purple singer Ian Gillan. He sent me home in a taxi with a towel.”

Dickinson continued to talk about how he is dealing with aging: “I always work five years in advance – that way I’m never surprised. For example, I’m 70 now, so every year for the next five years will be a reason to celebrate.”

This fall, Iron Maiden will continue their 23rd world tour. Dickinson recently released his seventh solo album, The Mandrake Project, and is currently touring Europe.
