Chibi-Robo director wants Nintendo to bring back the series

The director of Chibi-Robo told VGC he would like to see Nintendo bring back the original game.

On Friday, it was announced that a new studio called Tiny Wonder Studios, founded by Chibi Robo developers, is working on a new game called KoROBO.

Now the game’s co-director, Kenichi Ishi, who also co-directed the original Chibi-Robo for GameCube in 2005, has told VGC that he would not mind a return of the original series, even if he is no longer involved in it.

Ishi said the series doesn’t really feel like his “baby” anyway, since the four main Chibi Robo games – one for GameCube, two for DS, and one for 3DS – were helmed by different directors.

“If I just speak from my point of view: For the GameCube game, I was the director, for the second and third games, Moriyama-san was the director, and for the fourth, it was Ito-san,” he explained through an interpreter.

“So the series itself has traveled through the hands of different people, and different people have worked on it.

“So I don’t really feel connected to it in the way that I don’t want anyone to do anything to this game. I would be happy if it was still alive and not gone forever in that sense.”

koROBO was announced on Friday at BitSummit and tells the story of a little robot and his 10-year-old owner Tom.

Starting in Tom’s room, koROBO eventually explores the rest of the family’s apartment in “Brocklyn, New York”.

“As koROBO, (players) help the family, complete tasks around the house, meet the many residents of the apartment building, and defend Tom and his loved ones from a mysterious enemy… who can travel through space and time,” the studio says.

Ishi is assisted on koROBO by Hiroshi Moriyama (the other co-director of Chibi-Robo), Keita Eto (co-director of Chibi-Robo Zip Lash), Hirofumi Taniguchi (the composer of Chibi-Robo), and “Hikarin” (a character designer of Chibi-Robo).

VGC’s full interview with koROBO developer Tiny Wonder Studios will be published shortly.
