In May, the Women’s Club of Altoona recognized outstanding art students from Altoona Area High School and Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic High School.

The ceremony, attended by students, parents, club members and guests, took place in the clubhouse.

Neil Young, art teacher at Bishop Guilfoyle, introduced the winning BGHS students. Young’s students showed their paintings as well as mixed media and design work.

Three art teachers represented Altoona Area High. Kathryn Curry introduced the winning art students from her classes, whose painting techniques included acrylic paints and colored pencils.

Eric Hoover’s students exhibited ceramic and graphite drawings.

Ron Bowser’s students presented their work with tempera paints and epoxy resin.

All students spoke about their art in terms of inspiration, technique and level of difficulty. Each winning art student received a certificate and a cash prize.

Club members served light refreshments. Committee members were Mary K DeLeo, Jacklyn Grove, Janet Grove, LuAnn Hallinan, Sandra Hollen, Maureen Kirsch, Sharlene Kirsch and Deborah Thomas.
