We’ve already written at HuffPost UK about how Hugo from Succession lent his voice to the Beckham documentary.

Then we found out that Kim Cattrall voiced a Rugrats character (yes, really).

But none of this prepared us for a fact that Richard Osman revealed in his podcast “The Rest Is Entertainment,” co-hosted with Marina Hyde.

In the May 27 episode, the Thursday Murder Club author revealed that his wife, Ingrid Oliver, was “among the final three to be the voice of Siri.”

Excuse me, what?

Yep! Ingrid, who played Miss Stamp in Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging, Police Officer Crowley in Last Christmas and Petronella Osgood in Doctor Who, was apparently very, very close to the role.

“It was a huge deal – they auditioned pretty much everyone, and she was in LA, and she made it to the final three, and they were supposed to go to Poland,” Richard said.

He says she had to “say words for the next four months… She was almost the voice of Siri.”

However, the former co-host of “Pointless” seems a little relieved that his wife didn’t quite get the role because it would have been “so weird at home.”

“I think in hindsight she’s glad she didn’t do it,” he added.

The job is no joke

Susan Bennett, the original American voice of Siri, revealed in a Vox interview: “I recorded four hours a day, five days a week in July,” adding that the job required the ability to “read 65 seconds of text in 60 seconds.”

An example of what she would have to say was, “Oil your mills today with jewelweed.”

Jon Briggs, who does the voiceover for “The Weakest Link,” was the first British voice for Siri.

After his voiceover was replaced by another man, he told The Guardian he was only using “the female voice and not my male replacement because I find the new one a bit bland, to be honest.”
