The field of participants for the 2024 Rocket Mortgage Classic is almost set. As of Friday evening, 151 places had been allocated. For golf fans from Detroit, there is a little bit of everything: 10 of the top 50 in the world golf rankings, seven major winners, three former winners of the Rocket Mortgage Classic and two precocious young players.
The tournament, which is in its sixth year at Detroit Golf Club, will be played June 25-30, with the first round beginning on Thursday. Top golfers coming to town include Cameron Young (No. 23 in the world rankings), Tom Kim (No. 26), Chris Kirk (No. 30) and of course Rickie Fowler, who is ranked 49th in the world and is the defending champion of the Rocket Mortgage Classic after his epic three-way playoff victory last year.
Other past winners returning to Detroit include Cam Davis, who won the trophy in 2021, and Nate Lashley, who won it in 2019 as the third alternate and led from start to finish.

The Rocket Mortgage Classic will also feature several major winners: Stewart Cink (British Open 2009), Jason Dufner (PGA Championship 2013), Zach Johnson (Masters 2007, British Open 2015), Francesco Molinari (British Open 2018), Webb Simpson (US Open 2012), Jimmy Walker (PGA Championship 2016) and Gary Woodland (US Open 2019).
At the other end of the experience spectrum, Detroit Golf Club will welcome 15-year-old Miles Russell with a sponsor exemption for his PGA Tour debut. The high school freshman from Jacksonville, Florida, finished his year with 20th at the LECOM Suncoast Classic on the Korn Ferry Tour in April. Also making his PGA Tour debut is Neal Shipley, who has already finished as the best amateur at the Masters and the US Open this year. The runner-up in the 2023 US Amateurs turned professional this week.
The final five spots will be awarded on Sunday and Monday, with one spot available in the John Shippen National Golf Invitational, a 36-hole tournament at Detroit Golf Club on Saturday and Sunday, and the final four decided in qualifying matches on Monday.
