South Jersey Beach Patrol races and the Phillies are back in action

Each year during the summer season, South Jersey beach patrols compete in races leading up to the South Jersey Lifeguard Championships. On Friday, August 9, beach patrols from Brigantine to Cape May Point will compete for lifeguard supremacy this summer.

There are two major lifeguard races on Friday, July 19th where you can witness exciting competitions between great athletes! First, the David R. Kerr Memorials, which starts at 6:15pm on the beach in Avalon, with patrols competing from Upper Twp to Cape May. The Atlantic City Classic is at 6:30pm on the beach at Albany Avenue. This year’s classic includes six events and The Locker Room with Billy Schweim will show all the results and interviews with the winners of both races.

The Philadelphia Phillies return to play after the MLB All-Star break and travel to Pittsburgh to face the Pirates. The Pirates are currently 1.5 games out of the last Wild Card spot in the National League and have a record of 48-48. Aaron Nola is on the mound for the Phillies, the best team in baseball.

The Eagles’ training camp begins this Tuesday and the Birds have a lot to talk about ahead of the 2024 NFL season: new offensive and defensive coordinators, the signing of running back Saquon Barkley and a revamped linebacker group!

In addition, not only the NFL but also most colleges’ training camps are beginning. Rowan University named the eighth head coach in university history, Pat Ruley, in June. Ruley is a graduate of the university who was previously defensive coordinator at Susquehanna University and will be a guest on Saturday’s show of The Locker Room.
