“So you want us to do your job,” Sam’s Club customers complain about the payment method

The retailer’s new Scan & Go checkout process, which allows customers to avoid queues, is generating mixed feelings among SAM’S Club fans.

The membership-based wholesale market club published a post on Facebook informing its customers about the Scan & Go checkout app.

The mobile app allows shoppers to scan their items while shopping at a Sam’s Club and pay for the products they want right on their phone.

“Using the Scan & Go checkout is like shopping in fast motion,” said the Sam’s Club post.

“When you use Scan & Go at the checkout or when filling up your car, you automatically take part in the competition.”

There are aspects of this payment method that consumers appreciate, but some shoppers also believe that the futuristic change at the checkout is an opportunity for retailers to reduce labor costs.

One person commented on the Facebook post: “Is this new app replacing workers?”

Several other Sam’s Club customers responded to the question.

“Of course it does,” said one user.

“That’s the whole point: reducing labor costs.”

“You become an employee,” added another.

“But without pay or discounts.”

Sam’s Club charges delivery fees

“So you want us to do your job and maybe win a prize,” one shopper asked in the comments on Sam’s Club’s post.

“No, I don’t work there,” emphasized one Facebook user.

“I’m not going to do their work for them. The prices are high enough, so I’m not going to give them any money and scan my own stuff.”

One buyer even asked: “So what discount do I get for subsidizing the labor?”

One person said the new payment method was a “game changer” for them and explained why they vowed to stop paying their annual Sam’s Club membership fee.

“We also pay an annual fee to be able to shop and pay there,” said the consumer.

“I went to Walmart and got a lot of stuff cheaper, so people compare prices, just by the way. This will be the last year I pay the fee, I’ve made up my mind.”

One Facebook user simply said: “No, that’s what you pay the employees for.”

Some people even pointed out that the Scan & Go payment method could lead to more shoplifting problems.

“It seems like it makes it super easy for people to shoplift,” said one customer.

“Best way to steal,” someone added.

“Assuming everyone is honest,” someone interjected.

“If management doesn’t allow employees to chase thieves out the door and there’s no police on site, I guarantee you thefts will skyrocket. And so will your costs.”

Although there are systems in place to prevent people from stealing products from Sam’s Club, there have still been complaints from some shoppers.

“And then you have to stand in line for a long time until you get out the door so an employee can scan everything again,” commented one person about skipping the queues at the checkout with the Scan & Go app.

“Good times!!”
