About the collaboration with Corey Taylor At “For some, nothing”, Hook told Ronnie Hunter of 99.7 The Flash Radio station: “I developed a friendship with Corey in 2020. He actually called me. I was working in Los Angeles with his producer, and I think the producer said, “I have Jason Hook here. We’re working on some stuff.’ He said, ‘Oh, give me his number.’ And suddenly we were texting back and forth. And we hit it off right away. He’s just a damn great guy. Maybe he doesn’t want anyone to know that, but he’s a real sweetheart. (Laughs) He’s a really nice guy. And he said, “If you want to build something and you don’t have anyone to collaborate with, I’ll write with you.” So it was just right for the time and the emotions I was going through at the time. He really encouraged me, like, “Yeah, let’s do something.” And we ended up doing five songs together. Four of them will probably never be heard, but we have “For some, nothing” for the records.”

Hook is connected with MATT BLACK by Singer Wes HortonBassist Nick Diltz and drummer Rob Pierce.

In an interview with Jake Daniels of Rock 100.5 The KATT radio stations, Hook explains how MATT BLACK came together: “Well, I was pretty determined to start a new band. Music is in my blood. It’s part of my DNA, and I just knew that… I didn’t care how long it took. It just had to be strong. And so, one (musicians) at a time, I found rob first, and he is great. And then of course Nick; he’s from Los Angeles. All my guys are just great players. And I wanted to have a good package of songs. And here we are.”

Regarding the importance of personal interaction with his bandmates, Hook said: “Well, it was kind of a requirement to find people who were mentally stable and drama-free and who we could hang out with. It’s all about staying together. When you’re on tour, you’re stuck in this submarine, this rolling submarine, for 18 months. It’s important that everyone is compatible. The personalities, I wanted to get really specific about that this time… We get along great.”

After leaving his previous band in February 2020, just before COVID-19 brought the whole world to a standstill, Hook wanted to take creative control and let his musical free spirit run wild in a project that was truly his. He decided to bet on himself. With great risk comes great reward and the decision to MATT BLACK has clearly worked to his advantage.

“As a musician, I long for freedom and I was not ready to stop creating,” Hook divided.

“Life is short,” he continued. “We all want to be content and happy with what we want to achieve in life.”

The lockdown due to the pandemic gave him the opportunity to put together the right musicians and carefully craft their debut album.
