Carnations and books go hand in hand in Alliance in August.

The Friends of Rodman Public Library’s annual used book sale will be held in conjunction with the Greater Alliance Carnation Festival, August 3-7 at the Alliance Commons.

Alliance Commons is located at 405 S. Linden Ave., a short walk from the Rodman Public Library, where parking is available. Visitors should enter the building from the Linden Avenue side. Wayfinding signs will be posted throughout the area to direct visitors.

In addition to the usual books and other items, there will be raffles for baskets, two quilts and a lottery game. Tickets cost $1 each or 6 tickets for $5.

New this year are Christmas gift tags for $1 per pack, which will be available alongside Christmas postcards, which will be available in packs of 20 for $2. A 20-pack of cards with envelopes will also be available for $3.

As for the sale, Friends of Rodman Public Library says more than 10,000 items are available, including books, paperbacks, DVDs, CDs, records, magazines, and some puzzles and board games. More than 75% of the items have been donated, and 80% of the items are nonfiction in many popular categories, including history, biography, science, cooking, crafts, travel, religion, art, photography, and business.

Hardcover books cost $1 each, paperbacks 50 cents. Children’s books cost 25 cents each, or five for $1. Magazines cost 10 cents each, or 12 for $1. Books on CDs cost $3 per box, CDs and DVDs cost $1 per disc, and vinyl records cost 25 cents per disc.

Sales begin at 9 a.m. on August 3 and are open to Friends of Rodman Public Library members only. Memberships will be sold at the door for $5 for those 15 and older. A sustaining membership is available for $25 and up.

The sale will run on August 3rd from 9am to 5pm, on August 4th from 1pm to 5pm and from August 5th to 7th from 9am to 8pm.

On August 6th only, visitors who make a purchase will be entered into a drawing to win a chair and ottoman donated by Grove Appliance.

On the last day of the sale, August 7, shoppers can pay by donation throughout the day. Cash, checks and credit cards are accepted, but there is a 4% processing fee for all credit cards.
