Windows systems reboot and experience a blue screen of death due to a CrowdStrike bug

New Delhi:

Thousands of Windows users around the world are experiencing the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) error, which causes the system to suddenly shut down or restart. Microsoft stated in a message that the error is caused by a recent CrowdStrike update.

Blue screen errors, also known as black screen errors or STOP code errors, can occur when a critical problem causes Windows to shut down or restart unexpectedly. You may see the message “Windows has shut down to prevent damage to your computer” or a similar message.

These errors can be caused by hardware or software problems. If you recently installed new hardware and encountered a blue screen error, try shutting down your PC, removing the new hardware, and restarting. If restarting is difficult, you can start your PC in Safe Mode. For detailed steps, see the instructions on how to start your PC in Safe Mode in Windows.

Also consider updating Windows with the latest patches through Windows Update, seeking help from other sources, or restoring Windows to an earlier restore point.

If none of these measures resolve the blue screen error, use the Blue Screen Troubleshooter in the Help app:

  • Open the Help app in Windows.
  • Type “fix BSOD errors” in the Help app search bar.
  • Follow the step-by-step instructions in the Help app.
