Have your friends or your TikTok For You page convinced you to watch the 2024 season of Love Island USA, but you don’t know how or where to start?

We know it can be daunting to jump on the bandwagon of a show that already has six seasons and more than 100 episodes, but you’ve come to the right place.

If this is the first time you’re hearing about Peacock’s dating show, it may be because Love Island USA recently hit new viewership highs, two years after the streaming service acquired the series from Paramount+.

Here’s USA TODAY’s guide to all things “Love Island USA” and everything you need to know before you enter the villa.

What happens on “Love Island”?

The hugely popular Love Island franchise originated in the UK in 2015, and the 11th season of the British series (available on Hulu in the US) is currently airing.

The concept of the show is similar to many reality dating shows, as the cast members live together far away from their friends and family and without access to their cell phones while searching for romance with their fellow cast members. With more than 80 cameras strategically placed throughout the villa (including in the bedroom and bathroom) and microphones recording every word, Love Island captures every dramatic – or intimate – moment.

However, unlike most reality shows, “Love Island” is broadcast almost in real time.

The islanders spend their days gossiping, training, playing games and taking part in the show’s challenges. And in most cases, everyone has to have a relationship to stay on the show.

As the season progresses, new cast members – known as “bombshells” – enter the villa and test the bonds of existing relationships. Every few days, one (or more) islanders are “dumped” following a vote that changes format each time.

At the end, only a few couples are left and the viewers are tasked with voting for their favorite couple to win the cash prize.

Where can you watch “Love Island USA”?

“Love Island USA” is available exclusively on Peacock.

If you dare, seasons 4 and 5 are also available on Peacock. Seasons 1 through 3 stream on Paramount+.

How to watch season 6 of “Love Island USA”

Peacock is releasing new episodes of Love Island USA every day except Wednesday. The drama airs at 6 p.m. PT/9 p.m. ET.

There’s no news from the villa on Saturday; instead, Aftersun host Maura Higgins (from Love Island UK Season 5) talks to the show’s main host Ariana Madix, recently departed cast members, famous alumni and other guest stars about the latest developments.

Sometimes she shares new Love Island footage that didn’t make it into the final cut and announces bombshells who will be moving into the villa.

What is Casa Amor on Love Island?

Just as the islanders are becoming a little more comfortable with each season, the show’s producers are increasing the pressure by doubling the number of eligible cast members.

The men and women are often separated in secret by those in power, and it soon becomes clear that they will be living in separate villas for several days while getting to know a whole new group of men and women. This is when, as the islanders like to say, relationships are put to the test.

In season 6, the producers made the men an offer for the first time that was a stab in the wrist for their better halves: They had the choice of either staying in the “Love Island” villa or going to Casa Amor.

To no one’s surprise, all six guys – Kordell, Miguel, Rob, Kendall, Kenny and Aaron – went to the new villa and met six new women. After a few days of separation, the original cast reunites and reveals who stayed true to their partners and who got back together.

What is movie night on Love Island?

Of all the games and challenges the islanders participate in, “movie night” is one of the most dramatic.

At some point after the drama surrounding Casa Amor begins to simmer, the producers sit everyone down so the cast can see and hear exactly what everyone has been saying behind their backs all season.

An islander may witness a friend badmouthing them, or they may watch their partner become intimate with another person during Casa Amor. “Movie Night” shows these blissfully ignorant reality stars exactly what viewers have been tuning in to for weeks.

What does “soul bonds are crazy” mean?

In Season 5, “Soul Ties” went from being one of the many neon signs dotted around the villa to what could be considered Love Island USA’s first catchphrase, courtesy of Day 1 contestant Kay Kay Gray: “Soul Ties is insane” (emphasis on “ay-zee”).

The neon sign “Soul Ties” was placed in a spot where the islanders could network away from prying eyes (but not HD cameras, of course). The downside? The actors could hear the conversations from below.

From breakups to new partners, wild things happened when the islanders went to Soulties. As the reputation as a place of dramatic events solidified, Soulties is Crazy was born. With the neon sign resurfacing in Season 6, the newest cast member is keeping Kay Kay’s legacy alive.

Why is “Love Island USA” suddenly so popular?

Season 6 of “Love Island USA” had double the reach of previous seasons and became Peacock’s “most watched and most talked about series by minutes watched and volume of social conversations,” according to a July 11 press release.

The sudden interest could be due to new host Ariana Madix, who is having a great year thanks to “Scandoval,” “Dancing with the Stars” and her Broadway debut. But the main reason may be the gripping drama and constant twists of the Season 6 cast, which have sparked heated debates online about who is serious and who is just faking it to get to the finale.

“The phrase we’ve used to describe this season is ‘perfect storm,'” Simon Thomas, one of the show’s executive producers, recently told Rolling Stone. “It’s hard to describe one element of the show as the only thing that drove it forward. Everything ignited at the same time, it’s like magic.”
