Eddie Mendoza, senior concept artist at Apple and contributor toThe Rise of the Dragon: An Illustrated History of the Targaryen Dynastywill bring his talent into the 2025 season The Song of Ice and Fire Calendars. Look, nobody uses calendars anymore, but the real purpose of these calendars is to marvel at the beautiful images that talented artists like Mendoza come up with. For the new calendar, Mendoza features some locations we’ve never seen on screen before, like the Dornish castle Starfall:

And now new pictures are coming out, courtesy of Westeros.org. The picture for January shows, of course, the wall:

Specifically, it’s the Bridge of Skulls, a narrow bridge that spans the Gorge, a huge chasm on the west side of the Wall. It’s named after all the bones that are at the foot of the bridge. Maybe they should add a railing.

Mendoza now moved on to more familiar territory and told us his view of Dragonstone, the ancestral home of House Targaryen and where Rhaenyra is currently hiding. House of the Dragon:

Dragonstone is a volcanic island—why else do you think dragons hang out there?—although we haven’t seen much lava on either island. game of Thrones or House of the Dragon…not yet. But there is a lot of steam and smoke.

Finally, Mendoza gives us a beautiful depiction of the water gardens, the pleasure palace that Doran Martell built in the The Song of Ice and Fire Books and on game of Thrones both:

This looks like an incredibly beautiful place to spend the summer.

The 2025 The Song of Ice and Fire The calendar ships on July 23rd, so it’s almost here! You can pre-order one now.

It is always exciting to see what artists illustrate from George RR Martin’s extensive work. If only The Winds of Winter came out, they would have a whole new cast of characters, places and events to work with. One day…
