“24,” the popular action-packed TV series from the 2000s, will be brought back to life as a film – but in a “very interesting way,” promises producer Brian Grazer.
“Imagine has always played in the space where there’s a high probability that it’s going to be successful in theaters,” the Imagine Entertainment co-founder explained during an appearance on MSNBC’s “Squawk Box” last month (according to Variety). “That’s great for us because we’ve built over 100 different products and brands in 30 years, whether it’s Backdraft, which I’m about to do with Glen Powell today, or 24, a movie we’re about to do with Disney and Fox in a very interesting way.”
“24,” starring Kiefer Sutherland, premiered in November 2001 and ran for nine seasons, ending its eighth season in January 2010 before the miniseries “24: Live Another Day” returned in May 2014. Created by Joel Surnow and Robert Cochran, the series follows Jack Bauer, a U.S. counterterrorism agent who tries to thwart all sorts of nefarious plots, from cyberwarfare and government corruption to bomb threats.
Each suspense-filled episode typically covered 24 consecutive hours of Jack’s life, highlighted by split screens and a digital clock. Leslie Hope, Elisha Cuthbert, Dennis Haysbert, Carlos Bernard and Mary Lynn Rajskub also appeared.
A TV movie called 24: Redemption aired between seasons 6 and 7, in which Jack is tasked with stopping a warlord living in Africa from recruiting children into his murderous army. So this new film won’t be the first full-length film in the series…
In 2017, Fox released the spin-off “24: Legacy” starring Corey Hawkins from “The Walking Dead” in the lead role as former military sergeant Eric Carter.
