Historically, the Philadelphia Phillies will not win the World Series in 2024

The Philadelphia Phillies have the best record in baseball entering the second half of the season. At 62-34, they hold an 8.5-game lead over the Atlanta Braves in the National League East and are seeking their first World Series title since 2008.

However, experience shows that this will be difficult despite the success in the first half of the year.

According to @OptaSTATS on social media:

The Phillies have the best record in the Major League so far this season.

None of the last 17 National League teams with the best major league record at the All-Star break have won the World Series; the last NL team to do so was the Cincinnati Reds in 1990.

The report also noted that while the 1994 Montreal Expos were included on this list, they had no chance of winning the World Series because the season ended before the playoffs due to a strike.

The Phillies will try to counteract this trend, as they have a really balanced roster. They have four excellent pitchers in Zack Wheeler, Aaron Nola, Ranger Suarez and Christopher Sanchez. They complement them with power in the form of Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber and also have speed in Trea Turner.

Additionally, they have an aggressive front office leader in Dave Dombrowski, who will likely add more talent before the July 30 trade deadline.

The Phillies open the second half of the season on Friday night when they face the Pittsburgh Pirates at 6:40 p.m. ET.
