Four people arrested in connection with the death of University of Arizona student Erin Jones

TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – Four teenagers have been charged in connection with the death of Erin Jones, a student at the University of Arizona in April.

Tucson police said the following people were taken into custody.

• Estevan Garcia, 18, was arrested on June 14 and taken into custody near Midvale Park and Drexel.
• Matthew Beale, 17, was arrested on June 17 and taken into custody near East Golf Links Road and South Pantano Road.
• Marcus Ian Williams, 17, was arrested on June 17 and taken into custody in the 1800 block of West San Juan Trail.
• Akeem Alvarez, 17, was arrested on June 18 at a home in the 13,000 block of East Mesquite Flat Springs Drive.

All four face murder and drive-by shooting charges, and their bail is set at $1 million.

Jones was fatally shot at an off-campus house party on April 28. Three other people were also injured in the shooting but survived.

The TPD said the weapon used to kill Jones was also associated with aggravated assault

“We thank the TPD SWAT team and several community response teams for their assistance in safely apprehending four suspects in this homicide investigation,” the TPD said in a press release.

The TPD said investigators believe the suspects drove to the party to find and shoot another group of people who were not related to the University of Arizona students who were there.

According to investigators, no one has yet been arrested in connection with this incident and detectives will continue their investigation.

“The Tucson Police Department appreciates the assistance of the Pima County District Attorney’s Office, particularly Major Crimes Bureau Chief Mark Hotchkiss, 88-Crime, the Federal Bureau of Investigations and the University of Arizona Police Department,” police said in a press release. “We also thank members of our Tucson community who provided information to help move the investigation forward.”
