Luxurious townhouse “Surf Club” by the sea with guest house

Luxurious townhouse “Surf Club” by the sea with guest house

When it was time to retire, Walter and Lynnette David asked themselves, “Where do we go?” Not far, it seems. Since they have owned a vacation home in Vero Beach for about 20 years, the island community was the first place that came to mind.

“We both really like the beach and Vero Beach. That sealed our decision,” says Walter.

The couple was drawn to the ocean view at 4750 Hwy. A1A #6 at the Surf Club. “From the back door, you walk 35 steps and the next step is in the sand,” Walter explains.

“We both love the sea. It is constantly changing. It has its own personality,” he continues.

Lynnette points out that in addition to the ocean views, the West Indian townhouse design, the beautiful kitchen, the guest house above the garage and the private courtyard are enviable features that they really liked.

“It’s the only one for sale in the Surf Club, and the price is good,” says Matilde Sorensen, broker and owner of Dale Sorensen Real Estate.

The luxury oceanfront condominium was built in 2017 by Vic Lombardi, owner of Water’s Edge Estates, LLC, and designed by architect Gregory Anderson, Sorensen says, pointing out the seawall and solid concrete block construction.

The team took over the site of the old Surf Club Hotel and transformed it into a luxury 11-unit resort with two-story oceanfront townhomes in a cozy enclave.

With its endless sea views, the Surf Club offers coastal living at its finest. The traditional British West Indies architectural style features exposed rafter ends, smooth white plasterwork, herringbone railings, French doors and doors and windows with skylights that let in plenty of natural light.

Outdoor living options include an ocean view patio, sunrise and sunset balconies, and a private courtyard. You can enter the townhouse through the courtyard where there is an electric heated plunge pool, gas fireplace, and built-in BBQ, perfect for entertaining or relaxing after a day at the beach.

“On cool nights, we can build a fire outside in the fireplace and cool off in the plunge pool,” adds Lynnette.

A separate private staircase leads to a guest suite above the two-car garage. The guest house offers a spacious sleeping area, private bath, balcony and bar area with sink and beverage fridge.

“I like that the guest house above the garage offers guests a certain independence, secluded but still central,” says Lynnette.

From the courtyard, two stunning French doors open into a vestibule and provide a clear path to a hallway that beckons you with breathtaking ocean views. The interior boasts exquisite woodwork, luxurious finishes and intriguing ceiling details.

An elegant wooden staircase to the right leads to the second floor landing. There is also an elevator to the second floor bedrooms. To the left, a set of glass doors opens into a versatile space that can be used as a media or family room, a mother-in-law suite with en-suite bathroom and separate entrance to the courtyard, or a library or office, depending on your needs.

The guest cloakroom, under-stairs walk-in toilet and elevator are easily accessible from the central corridor leading to the spacious and stylish great room at the rear of the house.

The main living and dining areas offer views of the backyard and ocean through a wall of floor-to-ceiling windows with skylights, extending the great room to the outdoor terrace.

“The only reason you leave the room is to go to the balcony (upstairs),” says Walter of the sea view from the large room.

In the great room, cozy accents including built-in cabinetry, a double coffered ceiling and a fireplace add to the coastal elegance.

The floor plan features an open design with clearly defined common spaces in addition to the breakfast area, dining room and kitchen.

The kitchen features high-end appliances, custom wood cabinets, a natural stone countertop and a breakfast bar with seating.

The second floor living area is accessed by the stairs or elevator, which opens in the middle of the landing near the upstairs laundry room. The luxurious owner’s suite is located to the east and features a vaulted nickel board ceiling, hardwood floors, walk-in closet, and private balcony with ocean views.

The elegant master bathroom completes the suite with double vanities, a toilet, a walk-in shower and a luxurious bathtub overlooking the beach.

The laundry room and elevator are located between the owner’s suite and the guest bedroom with en-suite bathroom, accessed via the upstairs loft. Sliding doors separate the spaces and create a private sitting area.

This versatile space can be used as a bedroom, den, studio or playroom. The guest suite overlooks the pool and courtyard from a covered Juliet balcony, giving everyone access to the outdoor seating on the second floor.

Outside, overlooking the blue Atlantic Ocean, the shell stone terrace borders a spacious green area that extends to the seawall. Private, gated beach access is just steps from the covered oceanfront terrace.

Location was a big factor in their decision to stay at the Surf Club, Walter explains. “You’re just a short walk from Central Beach and eight minutes from Publix. You’re close to everything.”

The Surf Club is located on 2.5 acres with 400 feet of direct Atlantic Ocean frontage. The property is within walking distance to a guarded public beach at Jaycee Park, as well as shopping and restaurants. Riverside Park, the Municipal Marina, Vero Beach Dog Park, Riverside Theater and the Vero Beach Museum of Art are also nearby.
