Japan’s Bachelorette fails to find love in the latest series

This article contains spoilers.

The Bachelorette Japan is a straightforward show about a woman who dates several men. Those who don’t get a rose are sent away. In the end, 14 of them are rejected, leaving only one man. He then becomes her partner. Simple. Well, at least that’s how it’s supposed to be. Last season, however, things didn’t go so smoothly for Bachelorette Aki Takei. The 27-year-old University of Tokyo graduate was herself rejected when some of the male contestants told her they didn’t want a rose from her.

The tables are turned on Japan’s Bachelorette

This included entrepreneur Satoshi Kitamori, who lasted until the final three and met Takei’s family. “When I met her family, I felt like I couldn’t say for sure that Aki was the partner I wanted to spend my future with,” Kitamori wrote in a lengthy message on X. “I wish I could have made the decision sooner, but the timing of episode 7 was the only time I could take the time to talk to her, so the decision was postponed. I felt really sorry to have to tell Aki, as she had been through a difficult journey and I felt like I had done something that could affect her mental health,” he added.

The final was then between the chemist Soh Kushida and the doctor Takashi Sakaguchi. For Takei, however, there was Despite it Insecurity. Not only because of the previous rejections, but also regarding Kushida, who she fell in love with. In one of the episodes, he confessed that they wouldn’t necessarily become partners right away, even if he survived until the end. This probably influenced her final decision, as she chose Sakaguchi.

One final twist

The final twist of the season came in the final episode in the studio, when Takei and Sakaguchi announced that they had already split up. “I know that many people had hoped that we would be happy together, so I thought about it very carefully,” Takei said. “I also realized that it would not be a happy ending to our journey together, and I am sorry for that. It was still a very memorable journey, and I do not regret coming back with Sakaguchi. I will always be grateful to him.”
