Senator JD Vance concluded his vice presidential acceptance speech at the 2024 Republican National Convention with an instrumental version of Fleetwood Mac’s “Don’t Stop,” a song played by Bill Clinton during his 1992 presidential campaign.

“I promise every American – no matter what party they belong to – that I will give everything I have to serve you and to make this country a place where all your dreams for yourself, your family and your country become possible again,” Vance said before his wife and family took the stage.

The choice of the song, originally Clinton’s campaign anthem, was notable because it was associated with the hopeful and forward-looking spirit of the 1992 election. Clinton, a musician and Fleetwood Mac fan, adopted the song at the suggestion of a supporter.

Fleetwood Mac’s connection to Clinton’s campaign led the band to reunite their classic lineup to perform at his inaugural ball. This boosted their album sales and brought “Rumours” and their greatest hits back into the charts. Clinton later described Fleetwood Mac’s emotional farewell performance on the White House lawn in January 2001 as a memorable moment of his presidency.

By choosing “Don’t Stop,” Vance seems to want to evoke a sense of optimism and unity. The song’s legacy, linked to a time of hope and renewal in American politics, adds further historical significance to the Trump-Vance campaign.
