US Olympic Qualifier: Chris Guiliano and Jack Alexy set the pace in the 100 m freestyle semifinals

The men’s 100-meter freestyle at the U.S. Olympic Qualifiers promises to be exciting. It may take an American record to win on Wednesday night. It could end up being a world record.

Chris Guiliano And Jack Alex both won their semifinal heats and battled to break the American record on a track of just over 57 seconds.

Giuliano won the first heat in 47.25. Alexy was under world record pace in the 50 m before taking second place overall in 47.33. And lurking in third place is a guy named Caeleb Dressel at 47.53.

Alexy had set a US Open record of 47.08 earlier in the morning, and Dressel’s American record of 46.96 is in everyone’s sights.

One night after being named to the team for the 200m, Guiliano continued to improve his times, clocking 47.25, four tenths faster than his morning swim, to win the first semifinal. Hunter Armstrong was second in this race and fourth overall in 47.59, one behind Ryan Held, who held seventh place.

Fifth, Destin Lascowhich went to 47.90. Macguire McDuff delivered a sensational swim on the outside lane and reached the final in sixth place with a time of 48.04 seconds, 0.01 seconds faster than Held. Matt Koenig, a relay swimmer in Fukuoka, finished eighth, 0.18 seconds behind Patrick Sammons.

The results end the relay chase for Kieran Smith, Brooks Curry And Blake Pieroni, among other celebrities.
