Football is a learned love for Ole Miss’ Chris Hardie

Football is a learned love for Ole Miss’ Chris Hardie

Star football defender Jared Ivey from Ole Miss is there in this brand new edition of the “Ivey League” from the Rebels’ newest “land shark,” defensive end Chris Hardie, who transferred from Jacksonville State.

Hardie, in May, commits to Ole Miss instead of Oklahoma and his former defensive coordinator Zach Alley.

“The facilities were one thing,” Hardie said. “My old school is better now than it was when I got there. Our current head coach, Rich Rod, he really conquered the store and turned it around. I applaud him for that. But when I got here, I realized: OK, this is something that sets you all apart. I could use these resources because I haven’t had them before.

“And the players. I’m a guy who talks to anyone; I can talk to a wall. For me, it’s not difficult to communicate, but for people who aren’t like that, the transition could be difficult. You just do it. When I arrived here on the first day, you all treated me as if you had known me for two or three years.”

Hardie was a starter for the Gamecocks for several years.

Last season, he was named to the All-CUSA first team after totaling 61 tackles, 16 tackles for loss and 8.5 sacks. Hardie totaled 162 tackles in four years at JSU. He added 46.5 TFLs, 21.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, two passes defensed and one interception.
