Gabrielle Union and Zaya Wade recreate the famous scene from “10 Things I Hate About You”

It’s been over 20 years since Gabrielle Union played the role of Chastity in the teen film, but she had no trouble reciting some of the film’s more famous lines from memory.

The actress and her stepdaughter Zaya Wade recreated a famous scene from the film – in which she and Larisa Oleynik, who played Bianca, have a meaningless conversation about their feelings.

The latest TikTok challenge required people to prove they had seen “10 Things I Hate About You” without saying so outright.

In the video, Zaya plays the role of Chastity and flawlessly delivers the line, “I know you can be overwhelmed and you can be underwhelmed, but can you ever just be overwhelmed?” Union, who plays Bianca, nimbly replies, “I think in Europe you can.” Zaya lets out a confused “Right,” before the two walk in different directions and the video ends.

For the challenge, the two even recreate accents and facial expressions – and also slip into 90s looks.

“10 Things I Hate About You” – a retelling of Shakespeare’s play “The Taming of the Shrew” – premiered in theaters on March 31, 1999. In addition to Union and Oleynik, the film also starred Heath Ledger, Julia Stiles, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Larry Miller.

The film is considered to have launched the careers of Stiles, Ledger and Gordon-Levitt. Union, on the other hand, celebrated her breakthrough a year later with a role as Isis, the captain of the Clovers cheerleading team, in the 2000 film “U.S.A.”
