According to ESPN, this is the X-factor of Michigan Football 2024

The Michigan Football Association has lost a lot of talent from last year, but is looking to rebuild this year with some top players who are in their third year.

Cornerback Will Johnson, defensive tackles Mason Graham and Kenneth Grant, and tight end Colston Loveland – there’s no shortage of potential first-round NFL draft picks to lead the Wolverines this year. But there’s another junior who could be an impactful player that many aren’t talking about.

ESPN has released a list of the X-factors of all the top teams for 2024, and while you might be guessing quarterback Alex Orji, the network is actually counting on a third-year wide receiver who could make a big difference in the new year.

WR Tyler Morris. The Wolverines lost their starting receiver Roman Wilson to the Pittsburgh Steelers in the second round of the NFL Draft, but this could be an opportunity for Junior Morris to shine in his place. Morris showed what he can do with a brilliant 38-yard touchdown reception down the sideline in the CFP win over Alabama. The Wolverines are banking on Morris being able to provide them with many more plays like this as their new starting receiver. — Trotter

While this is just ESPN’s guess, it could actually be any number of Michigan receivers. The position group is largely unknown, with Morris being the elder statesman, Semaj Morgan the electric gadget player, Fred Moore and Kendrick Bell the deep threats, while Amorion Walker (another third-year player) is getting his first taste of offense and CJ Charleston is coming in via the transfer portal.

Morris showed off his SEC speed in the Rose Bowl against Alabama, but it wouldn’t be a surprise to see any of the above players have their breakout year, as Roman Wilson and Cornelius Johnson both moved on to the NFL this year.

Morris had 13 catches for 197 yards and a touchdown last year, his first year as a starter in the slot.
