Texas QB Quinn Ewers takes the Buckeye approach when talking about Michigan

Texas QB Quinn Ewers takes the Buckeye approach when talking about Michigan

For the first time in the history of both programs, Michigan and Texas will meet in Ann Arbor for a regular season game. The Wolverines, who won a national championship last season, will look to defend their championship status against the Longhorns, a team that is among the early favorites to win it all in 2024.

Speaking to the media at SEC Media Days, Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers was asked about this important matchup against Michigan in Week 2 – and he chose an interesting way to describe the Wolverines.

“I think when you go to the Big House… yeah, I mean, it’s going to be a great atmosphere. The place is going to be rocking, especially with all the hype just because it’s an early game. They just got a really big win, the national championship. And, yeah, the team up north.”

Of course, it’s common among Ohio State players, coaches and fans to refer to Michigan as “the team up north.” It seems Ewers, who spent a brief stint with the Buckeyes before moving to Texas, still carries some of that Buckeye lingo.

Personally, I think it’s great that Ewers decided to use that phrase when talking about the early season game against Michigan. There’s already a lot of excitement and anticipation surrounding this game given the high expectations for both programs, but the fact that Ewers reminded everyone of his Buckeye roots will only add to the excitement of the game on September 7th.
