IU Baseball’s Devin Taylor is projected to be the No. 4 overall pick in the 2025 MLB Draft – The Daily Hoosier

IU baseball outfielder Devin Taylor has a chance to challenge Kyle Schwarber’s position as the best draft pick in program history.

Just one day after the conclusion of the 2024 MLB Draft, Baseball America released a prediction for the 2025 Draft.

This outlet projects Taylor to be the No. 4 overall pick next summer. Schwarber was the No. 4 overall pick in 2014.

This is what Baseball America has to say about Taylor:

Taylor became the first Hoosier to achieve ABCA All-America status since 2014, when former IU star players Schwarber, Sam Travis, Dustin DeMuth and Joey DeNato accomplished the same feat.

A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Taylor was the catalyst in a historic offensive season for the Indiana baseball team. He led the team in batting average (.357), hits (86), runs (67) and home runs (20) and started 59 of 60 games. Taylor was the conference leader in both home runs and runs scored.

After being named a Preseason All-American by Perfect Game, Taylor lived up to expectations.

He had 30 multi-hit games and hit home runs in six of his last ten games. In his last 19 games for which he was moved to the first batting position, he batted .373 with 12 home runs. He was a two-time Big Ten Player of the Week this season and became the first Hoosier with 20 homers in a season during the BBCOR era (since 2011).

Taylor will return to Bloomington next year and has a real chance to break the program’s all-time home run record.
