Tinashe thinks about dance moves while writing songs – Music News

During an appearance on Variety’s “Behind the Song” video series to discuss the success of her viral hit “Nasty,” the singer revealed that dancing is a big part of her songwriting process.

“When I go into the studio, I’m always thinking about how I’m going to dance to a song,” Tinashe explained. “Because dancing is so important to me as an artist and how I express my music and how it comes across on stage.”

“And I think this song has a certain BPM, a certain cadence, a certain attitude that I always like to embody on stage,” the 31-year-old added of the song, released in April.

The Player singer then noted that she feels most like herself when she performs on stage.

“I think on stage I feel the most myself and the most confident and the most boastful,” she told the camera. “So it was really helpful to use that kind of personality, that character, when thinking about the lyrics.”

Tinashe first teased the song, which is the first single from her upcoming seventh studio album, Quantum Baby, to her fans on February 14, introducing it as a Valentine’s Day gift before officially releasing it two months later.

The track has since gone viral on TikTok.
