Hamish Linklater is the new voice of Batman

As a replacement for a talent like the late Kevin Conroy, who played Batman in fan favorites such as Batman: The Animated Series and the Arkham game trilogy, has to be a monumental achievement. Conroy’s deep, steady voice defined the character for decades – it’s challenging to think of a cartoon Batman and not hear Conroy’s voice behind the microphone. Unfortunately, Batman must carry on without him in 2022.

From August 1st, a new series called Batman: The Masked Crusader And announced that actor Hamish Linklater will lend his voice to the new noir animated series Batman/Bruce Wayne. Linklater is best known for roles in films including The big short film And midnight fairand shows like the current limited Apple+ series Wanted, where he played President Abraham Lincoln.

Batman: The Masked Crusader is intended to be more of an old-fashioned detective story in the art style of the original 1939 comics. Linklater’s take on the character seems more subdued to fit the tone, and it will be interesting to see how a Batman show in the style of a Mickey Spillane-esque story will work.

No Batman film or series would be complete without his menagerie of villains. So far, only three of the voice actors have been announced: Christina Ricci will voice Catwoman/Selina Kyle, Diedrich Bader will voice Two-Face/Harvey Dent, and Jamie Chung will play Harley Quinn.

Based on the full cast list, there should be more villains. The series will also feature the voices of McKenna Grace, Minnie Driver, Gary Anthony Williams, Tom Kenny, John DiMaggio, and Michelle C. Bonilla.

Fans of Batman: The Animated Series And Batman: The Bold and the Brave will also be pleased to see some of the original writers and creators of these shows appearing in the new Amazon Prime series. Bruce Timm, the artist and co-creator of Batman: The Animated Seriesand James Tucker, the producer and one of the writers of Batman: The Bold and the Braveare the showrunners and executive producers of Batman: The Masked Crusader.
