Roseanne Barr supports Ingrid Andress after the national anthem
The land of the free must calm down.
Roseanne Barr believes the public reacted far too harshly to Ingrid Andress’s disastrous performance of the national anthem.
The “Roseanne” star told TMZ on Wednesday that haters should stay away from the country singer because “The Star-Spangled Banner” is the “hardest (song) in the world to sing.”
Barr, 71, said she thought Andress, 32, did a good job despite the backlash.
And while many people have called the “More Hearts Than Mine” singer’s rendition of the patriotic song the worst ever, the former “Conners” singer believes she still holds that title.
Barr famously sang the national anthem at a San Diego Padres game in 1990.
The sitcom star drew boos from the audience and a barrage of criticism from sports fans, the media and even then-President George HW Bush.
The late politician called Barr’s screaming “disgraceful,” to which she responded during a press conference: “I’m sorry I didn’t sing that well. But I would like to hear him sing.”
The comedian expressed his condolences to Andress and told TMZ that the “Wishful Drinking” artist will get through this difficult moment in no time.
Andress took the field at the 2024 MLB Home Run Derby in Arlington, Texas, on Monday and sang a terrible version of the national anthem.
She quickly rose to fame and was criticized online for messing up the ballad.
The next day, the four-time Grammy nominee admitted that she had been drunk during the performance and was going to go to rehab.
“I’m not kidding you, I was drunk last night,” she wrote about X on Tuesday. “I’m checking myself into a facility today to get the help I need.”
Andress also apologized to MLB, baseball fans and the country she “loves so much for this portrayal.”
“I’ll tell you all what rehab is like,” she concluded. “I’ve heard it’s a lot of fun.”
