After Jennifer Lopez wore her eye-catching Versace dress at the 42nd Grammy Awards in 2000, it became one of her most popular fashion looks of all time.

J.Lo’s dress was a green jungle-inspired gown by the late designer, featuring a plunging V-neck and sheer material to accentuate her toned figure.

Her look was so captivating and influential that the multi-named entertainer claims it played a role in the birth of Google Images.

Jennifer Lopez attends the 42nd Grammy Awards on February 23, 2000 in Los Angeles.

In a video posted on Lopez’s YouTube channel, she recalls the night she wore the iconic Versace dress, saying, “And then, years later, I found out that because of that night and because of that dress, Google Images was actually created.”

There’s a good chance that J.Lo’s claim to fame through Google image searches for Versace is true.

Eric Schmidt, CEO of Google, wrote in a 2015 essay for Project Syndicate: “At the time, this was the most popular search query we had ever seen. But we had no surefire way to give users exactly what they wanted: JLo in this dress. Google Image Search was born.”

A Google spokesperson also confirmed to “Good Morning America” that Lopez did indeed play an important role in the development of the product.

“On February 24, 2000, the day after the Grammys, Google saw one of the most popular searches of all time – searches for Jennifer Lopez’s green dress,” the company wrote in a statement. “Looking at the search results for the query that day, you could see that we weren’t delivering what people were asking for.”

“We realized we needed to do better, so the day after the Grammys, we started working on a new kind of visual search engine that puts images at the center: Google Images,” the company said. “In doing so, Jennifer Lopez played a key role in launching one of our most popular products.”

In her video, J.Lo further expressed how shocked she was to hear that her famous dress had sparked Google image searches, also jokingly saying, “I’m just wondering, where’s my check?”

On Twitter, Google had a friendly response for Lopez in the form of a photo of her business card, which showed her name and job title “Chief Inspiration Officer, Google Images.”

At the end of the video clip, Lopez tearfully paid tribute to one of Versace’s designers, Luigi Massi, who worked closely with her over the years. He died in early April and was in the middle of designing a look for her to wear at this year’s Met Gala.

“You made me feel so beautiful, so perfect, so many times,” Lopez said of Massi. “Your attention to detail, your talent and your love will never be forgotten.”
