A wonderful summer night full of love, dancing, singing and flying with Mika in Barcelona

Dancing, jumping, singing… And while everyone Spectator going to a concert expects the artist to perform at least one performance, mainly singing. On Wednesday it was different, because that was the basis of the concert.

“We danced, sang, danced together, and what are we missing now?” Singer-songwriter Mike asked the audience in the middle of the song “Love Today” almost at the end of the concert.

“Make love!”

But it turns out: “Before we make love in the Royal Gardens, we have to fly first.”

At this point, the American-British-Lebanese singer had already completed his performance for almost 1 hour and 45 minutes, but he and the thousands of fans were able to continue without any problems.

Mika’s performance at the summer festival Les Nits de Barcelona in Gardens of the Palau de Pedralbesor, as he called it throughout the night: “Jardines Reales”, was a party.

“Me disculpo a tots porqué me falta un poquito de Catalán” (forgive me, because I’m missing one a bit of Catalan language), the musician said at the beginning of the concert. In fact, he asked a fan in the front row, Ada, to help him with his Catalan.

“Aquesta nit esteu molt elegants” (You are very elegantly dressed tonight), he said, addressing the audience with Ada’s help. Everyone, he said, was well dressed because they were attending a concert in the “Jardins de Pedralbes”, although he first said “Jardines reales” in Spanish, but his translator replaced it with the name of the place.

It was the second time I saw the singer perform in Catalonia. My first time was in Cap Roig Festival in the coastal town of Calella de Palafrugell two years ago.

And just like back then, Wednesday’s concert was unique, excellent, fun, fabulous, beautiful and, why not… a little hot, since it was a sunny and warm day in Barcelona and the temperatures were already relatively high when the performance began around 10 p.m.

Mika surprised us again and again with one hit after another, such as ‘Lollipop,’ ‘Relax, take it easyor the beautiful ‘happy ending’.

It may be impossible for him to stay on stage all night as he tries to interact with the audience and dance and sing surrounded by his fans. Two years ago he was sitting in the middle of the audience and nobody knew where he was. Not even the person next to him who, as I recall, according to Mika, had searched for the artist on Google. He was unaware that the artist was explaining the situation to the entire audience over the loudspeaker.

At Wednesday’s show, he appeared straight on stage, full of energy and already jumping around in a white suit. He wore five different suits: the first one, followed by a very colorful suit, a glittery one, another white one with a large embroidered white flower and a dark green one.

“Big Girl (You Are Beautiful)” was the song that made Mika get off the stage and sing it with the audience while walking or in some cases running around the seats. It was his playground, his “Butterfly Lounge‘ and he scanned the different sections of the stands to see who the ‘craziest’ fans were.

One of the most beautiful moments was during the song ‘Underwater’, when the audience kept hundreds of paper fishwhich surprised Mika. The female fan who prepared all of these fish had been cutting paper fish for about two days, as she told Mika in the middle of the song. She was invited to come on stage to help the singer conduct the audience as a choir.

But after ‘Underwater’ there were still hits like ‘Live Your Life’, ‘Billy Brown’ or ‘Elle me dit’. These marked the end of the show, which had ‘Grace Kelly’ and ‘Happy Ending’ as the main closing songs, without forgetting the big hit: “Love Today”.

“And now that we’ve flown,” he said at the end of the song, “we can finally make love.”

“Moltes gràcies, us estimo Barcelona,” were Mika’s last words on stage.
