SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Rebecca Taylor, chair of the San Diego County Democratic Party, died suddenly Wednesday, Mayor Todd Gloria confirmed in a statement. She was 40 years old.

Taylor was elected party chair just last year. She was born in Idaho and grew up in Texas. After her military service, she moved to San Diego, where she quickly became involved in local political organizing and rose through the ranks to become the party’s top official.

The cause of death has not yet been determined at this time.

“I am deeply saddened to learn of the sudden passing of Rebecca Taylor,” Gloria said. “Becca was a tremendous and passionate leader in our local Democratic Party, but she was so much more than that. She was a daughter, sister, veteran, friend to many, and a shining light who inspired us all to live life to the fullest.”

“Her leadership, passion and dedication to our community have left an indelible mark. We will miss her greatly and I extend my deepest condolences to her family and friends during this difficult time,” he continued.
