ESPN’s theme song “SEC Nation” gets lyric refresh for Oklahoma and Texas

ESPN’s theme song “SEC Nation” gets lyric refresh for Oklahoma and Texas

ESPN’s “SEC Nation” has announced that country music artist Brooke Eden will reprise the theme song for the network’s weekly show.

The traveling preview of Southeastern Conference college football games celebrates its tenth anniversary and now includes Oklahoma and Texas.

The show debuted in September 2014 with a unique SEC version of its theme song, “Take The Party” by Robert Randolph and The Family Band.

Ten years ago, Randolph and the station’s producers wrote a custom lyric for “Party Wherever We Go,” a tune that features the SEC in its lyrics.

The current lyrics of the theme song are: “Down in Tuscaloosa, yeah, it’s roll tide / Over in South Carolina, the Gamecocks are ready to fight / How about the dogs in Georgia? / Kentucky Wildcats bite.”

Now Eden has revised the lyrics and added the Oklahoma Sooners and the Texas Longhorns to the verses of the song.

“It is a great privilege to have the opportunity to put my stamp on the theme song and opening sequence of ‘SEC Nation,'” Eden said in a press release.

“I am so grateful for the opportunity to connect with fans and celebrate the passion of college football through a song that means so much to each of us,” she continued.

“I grew up here in the SEC, so these games make me feel at home, even when I’m on the road.”

So who is the woman behind the new lyrics?

Who did the SEC choose to rewrite the SEC Nation theme song?

Brooke Eden is a 35-year-old country music artist and singer-songwriter.

The Florida-born artist is known for the songs “Act Like You Don’t,” “Outlaw Love,” and “Left You For Me.”

Earlier in her career, Eden auditioned for two seasons of American Idol – seasons seven and ten. After graduating from the University of Florida, Eden moved to Nashville.

She was named one of CMT’s Next Women of Country in 2015 and subsequently released a handful of EPs. Her latest, Outlaw Love, was released in June 2023.

Early in her career, Eden performed alongside Garth Brooks, Trisha Yearwood, Tim McGraw, Kane Brown, Keith Urban, Parmalee and many others.

In January 2021, Eden publicly came out as queer and became one of the “leading LGBTQ+ artists in major label country music.”

Eden married her wife Hilary Hoover in 2022 in a Nashville wedding officiated by country singer Trisha Yearwood.

In May, Eden announced that she and Hoover were expecting their first child.

When it comes to being an LGBTQ+ artist in a male-dominated field, Eden told Tennessean in 2022, “It’s about how you plan your life… you have to be the captain of your own ship.”

“So many people will tell you you can’t do it, but I’m proof that you can. It’s just about making them understand that they can do whatever they want, no matter where they come from or what they want to do, as long as they lead their team.”

When will SEC Network viewers hear the new theme song?

SEC Nation viewers will be able to hear the new version of the song before the first SEC Nation of the 2024 season.

Eden will also release the song on all music platforms at midnight on Friday, August 30th.

The theme song will premiere on Saturday, August 31st at 9:00 a.m. CDT when the show heads to Gainesville, Florida to cover the Florida Gators game against the Miami Hurricanes.
