Del Taco Restaurants Inc., the Mexican restaurant division of parent company Jack in the Box Inc., is bringing back its “$2 and Under” value menu, the company said this month.
The Lake Forest, California-based brand had offered the “$2 and less” menu two years ago, but this month’s version includes new items like snack-sized chips and fresh guacamole.
The increase in value came as the brand, which had 595 restaurants at the end of the second quarter ended April 14, seeks to boost sales that were slightly down during the same period.
Brian Scott, chief financial officer of parent company Jack in the Box Inc., said in a second-quarter conference call on May 14 that store sales for the Del Taco system fell 1.4%, including a 1.8% decline in company-owned sales and a 1.1% decline in franchise sales.
“The decline in revenue was due to a decline in transactions, partially offset by an increase in prices,” Scott said.
Del Taco has introduced 15 items on its latest value menu, all available for $2 and less, the company said.
“The new Value Menu includes snack-sized tacos, burritos, nachos, snack-sized snacks and chips, as well as fresh, homemade guacamole – the newest addition to the Value Menu,” a company spokesperson said.
Sheena Dougher, marketing director at Del Taco, added, “We believe the ‘Del’s Real Deal$ Menu’ offers an unbeatable mix of quality, variety and affordability, with 15 dishes all priced at $2 or less.”
Dishes on Del Taco’s 15-item menu include:
- Bean Cheese Burrito, consisting of slow cooked beans, grated cheddar cheese and red or green sauce, wrapped in a warm flour tortilla.
- Chicken Cheddar Rolls, with grilled chicken, grated cheddar cheese, optionally with green sauce, creamy ranch sauce or chipotle sauce, rolled in a warm wheat tortilla.
- Crispy chicken tacos, with a crispy Del’s chicken strip, shredded lettuce and shredded cheddar cheese with your choice of creamy ranch sauce, habanero sauce or chipotle sauce in a warm flour tortilla.
- Snack-sized chips and guacamole, with Del Tacos Guacamole, prepared daily with whole Hass avocados, pico de gallo, lime juice and special spices, served with fresh, homemade tortilla chips.
- Triple Layer Queso Nachos, consists of tortilla chips garnished with slow cooked beans, queso blanco and green sauce.
Del Taco was founded in 1964. The company has restaurants in 17 states.
