Series review: In the final series before the break, the Jumbo Shrimp lost four of six road games to the Gwinnett Stripers, dropping Jacksonville to 8-9 in the second half and 4 1/2 games behind first-place Rochester.

To mark: Griffin Conine had the decisive hit on Sunday, a two-run single in the fourth inning that gave the Jumbo Shrimp a 2-1 victory and sent the team into the break with a win.

Crustacean sensation: How solid was Emmanuel Ramirez in Jacksonville’s closer role? The last earned run he allowed was on May 28 while playing for the Miami Marlins. Whether with the Marlins or Jumbo Shrimp, he hasn’t allowed an earned run in 12 games and has a WHIP of 1.06 and an ERA of 2.65 this season.

On board: Unlike several recent seasons, it’s been a mediocre year so far for Durham, the Triple-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays. Durham’s roster includes the Bulls’ best prospect, infielder Junior Caminero (.261/.333/.478, 8 HR, 24 RBI in 34 games), though he hasn’t played in a Triple-A game since May and recently went to the Florida Complex League for a rehab assignment. Left-handed pitcher Mason Montgomery is also a top-10 prospect in the MLB.com rankings for the organization, but has struggled in 2024 (0-6, 6.62 ERA).

Fun at the baseball stadium: It’s an abbreviated series, but there’s still plenty of fun to be had at the stadium. This week’s schedule doesn’t include Christmas in July, but instead includes the Fourth of July on Friday, complete with postgame fireworks. There’s also Mardi Gras Hawaiian shirt raffle night on Saturday and Wizards and Wands Night on Sunday.

Expected pitchers on Friday: To be determined.
