Taylor Swift greets fans in Gelsenkirchen in German

US superstar Taylor Swift greeted her fans in Gelsenkirchen in German on Wednesday evening.

“Gelsenkirchen, welcome to the ‘Eras Tour’! Good evening,” called the 34-year-old to the cheers of 60,000 fans in the sold-out VELTINS Arena.

“Nice to see you,” she said, also in German.

Swift’s performance in the Ruhr metropolis marks the start of a concert series in Germany.

In English she said: “It won’t be long before I come back.”

Swift’s last German tour was nine years ago. Her current world tour started in March 2023 and caused a stir worldwide, with the shows selling out within minutes.

Swift will also perform in Gelsenkirchen with her opening act Paramore on Thursday and Friday; around 200,000 fans are expected to attend the three shows in the city.

Further German shows will then take place in Hamburg (23 and 24 July) and Munich (27 and 28 July).
