Who is Jake Shane? Origin Story, Famous Friends, Dating History

If you’ve ever spent any time on TikTok, I hope you’re a proud member of the thriving pussy community. Jake Shane, aka @octopusslover8, took the app by storm in 2021 when he started posting clever and hilarious impersonations of dead historical figures, inanimate objects and more. A few years later, he has three million followers on the app and hosts a comedic therapy session-style podcast with the brilliant title Therapuss. Simply put, he’s an icon, he’s a legend and he’s the moment. In my completely unbiased opinion (I’m a fan), Jake represents the future of the entertainment industry.

Since I’m something of a Jake expert, I thought I’d help those who need to learn about this important pop culture figure. Here’s everything you need to know about Jake Shane, including how he became famous, his dating history, and his long list of celebrity BFFs.

Jake grew up in a suburb of New York City and attended high school in Washington Heights. Before taking over TikTok and becoming my idol, he was a college student at the University of Southern California.

Quite simply, he’s the funniest guy in the world. Jake was always destined for social media fame, and it was his iconic impersonations that ultimately gave him his big break. He’s acted out everything from the first guy to milk a cow and tell everyone in the village, to the Founding Fathers finding out that John Hancock signed his name “big” to Clinton Kane practicing his Australian accent in front of the mirror. (Next he should play Clinton planning the fake Zoom funeral for his “dead” mother.)

Now Jake is conquering the podcast world with Therapeutuss. On his show, he gives hilarious advice to wimps and chats with stars like Ed Sheeran, Joe Jonas and Charli XCX. I’m still waiting for my invite.

Jake Shane’s dating history

Jake is open about the fact that he has never had a boyfriend. In a recent Instagram story caption, he announced, “If I don’t find a boyfriend by the end of 2024, I’m turning to religion.” So yes, it seems like the situation could get serious.

However, the influencer does have occasional affairs. “I lost my virginity to a 39-year-old when I was 20,” Jake said on the July 11 episode of Therapeutuss. When a caller asked if he would recommend it, Jake said, “No. Honestly, it was from Grindr. It was crazy. It was during Covid. It was just chaos.” Jake revealed in the chat with EAR! that he pays for dating apps like Hinge with his dad’s credit card and then has to send him a Venmo transfer. I’m afraid very few guys on dating apps are worthy of that symbol.

Jake Shane’s celebrity friends

Jake has pretty incredible access to A- and B-list celebs. He’s been super close friends with Sofia Richie Grainge for years, does Pilates with Glen Powell, and is currently planning on getting a tattoo in Mexico with Joe Jonas. Not to mention, he’s good friends with TikTok queen Alix Earle, her up-and-coming influencer sister Ashtin Earle, and Ashtin’s summer toy, DJ John Summit. Jake recently hosted a slumber party and ate taquitos with that crew, and yes, I’m still jealous.

The podcast host is also friends with several of the pop artists he admires: Reneé Rapp, Charli XCX and Tate McRae have all been victims of his wild prank calls for She. She all have touched him and enthusiastically helped him with unusual problems, so these friendships seem very real to me. The video is a 12 minute long show-off video and I love the way he does it.
