Red Sox will ‘take some steps’ and win the World Series – NBC Sports Boston

The Boston Red Sox have far exceeded expectations in the first half of the 2024 season. Shortly before the transfer deadline, they are in the third wildcard spot in the American League and are only 4.5 games behind in the AL East table.

David Ortiz is one of those joining in the hype surrounding his former team. The Red Sox legend gave his World Series prediction on Tuesday night along with New York Yankees greats Alex Rodriguez and Derek Jeter in the postgame show for the All-Star Game on FOX Sports.

“You might think I’m crazy,” Ortiz said after the American League’s 5-3 victory. “… I have to get to my Red Sox. Remember what I told you: Jack of all trades, master of none. The front office, we’re going to make some moves, we’re going to get what we need, and we’re going to catch the (Philadelphia) Phillies in their home opener. We’re going to beat them. Dave Dombrowski, my husband, is watching us. Good luck.”

Rodriguez chose the Yankees over the Los Angeles Dodgers, while Jeter, who apparently wasn’t as convinced of his former team as his colleagues at FOX Sports, chose the Phillies over the Baltimore Orioles.

While Ortiz’s pick is undoubtedly the boldest of the bunch, it’s not impossible. The Red Sox have put themselves in a position to not only clinch a playoff spot, but perhaps capture the division crown. Their chances will only improve if management invests in the club at the deadline, and Ortiz seems confident that will happen.

A trade at the July 30 deadline would cap off a memorable month for Boston. Alex Cora’s club entered the All-Star break with seven wins in its final ten games. Jarren Duran, a key player in the club’s stellar first half, was named All-Star Game MVP after hitting the game-winning two-run home run.

The Red Sox will look to pick up where they left off when they begin a tough three-game road series against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday.
