Police investigate death of child left in car

MONTICELLO, NY — Police are investigating the death of a 2-year-old boy in Monticello yesterday.

Monticello Village Police responded to a 911 call at 6:43 p.m. Tuesday reporting that a child in a vehicle had gone into cardiac arrest outside Building 14 of the Sleepy Hollow Apartment complex on Terri Lane. The temperature yesterday was over 95 degrees.

According to the police report, Monticello officers attempted to resuscitate the child. Monticello firefighters and Catskills Hatzolah EMS also responded to the scene.

Their efforts were unsuccessful. Sullivan County Coroner Alan Kesten pronounced the child dead at the scene.

Police say an investigation is currently underway. NYS Police have taken over the lead of the investigation and are being assisted by Monticello Police and the District Attorney’s Office.

The state police will inform about current developments.
