Fantasy of a Broken Heart unveils new song “Loss”

fantasy of a broken heart have released a new song, ‘Loss’, from their upcoming debut album Masterpieces of engineering. It follows lead single “Ur Heart Stops.” Listen below.

In a statement about the new song, Bailey Wollowitz of the band said:

There’s always a tension between simplicity and excess in songwriting. Especially in the age of digital home recording, it’s hard to ignore the nervous tug at the endless possibilities of overdubbing and arrangement. Why not add a string section to every song? In these moments of preoccupation, I often came back to the first few Unknown Mortal Orchestra records, which have always inspired me as works that achieve sonic maximalism with very minimal arrangements; a perfect blend of the euphoric highs of the later Beatles catalog and the hardest-sounding demo of Jay Reatard. The song Loss began as words on a piece of paper, and a desire to capture a complex feeling in a simple way. Memory loss, hearing loss, loss of love, loss of a loved one. Losing yourself. This was the first song recorded as a demo for the album, and a turning point when I realized there was no way to hide if I was honest about these things. By the final mix, we had stripped away the layers and left it as it was meant to be: a small song with a lot of meaning. We also lost a few drumsticks along the way.

Masterpieces of engineering will be released on September 27th by Dots Per Inch.
