The Argentine national team was crowned champion of the 2024 Copa America. With a solid team, a great work from Lionel Scaloni and a Lionel Messi leading, the Albiceleste sparked great joy in their country. However, this euphoria was not free from some objectionable chants with xenophobic undertones.

“Boys, now we’re excited again,” was the anthem of the Scaloneta in Qatar and was accompanied by other great hits that made millions of Argentines vibrate. “Brazilian passing by crumpled the five-time champion” which was then adopted by the players, as well as a chant that became angry: “Listen, run with the ball.”

Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez is being investigated by the club after a video appeared on social media showing him and Argentina Teammates sang a chant against the French national team. The chant was widely condemned as racist and discriminatory.

Listen, spread the word
They play in France, but all come from Angola
How nice, they will run
They are trans lovers like that damn Mbappe
Your mother is Nigerian, your father is Cameroonian
But your ID card says you are French

Listen, hear the bullet
He went to France, but his son was Angola

What I mean is to comply
Son came as son of Mbappé
Your country is Nigeria, your country in Cameroon
But the document states French nationality
