Maryam Mehrabi’s hunger strike in solitary confinement in Isfahan prison

Maryam Mehrabi, the sister of death row political prisoner Mahmoud Mehrabi, is going on hunger strike in protest against her unlawful detention and the deprivation of prisoners’ rights, including the right to communication and visitation.

According to reports received by Iran Human Rights Monitor (Iran HRM), Maryam Mehrabi has been on hunger strike for over two weeks. She is currently being held in solitary confinement in Dolatabad Women’s Prison in Isfahan. Ms. Mehrabi has been hospitalized several times during her detention. The lack of visitors and communication with her is causing increasing concern for her family.

According to reports received by Iran Human Rights Monitor (Iran HRM), Maryam Mehrabi has been on hunger strike for over two weeks. She is currently being held in solitary confinement in Dolatabad Women’s Prison in Isfahan. Ms. Mehrabi has been hospitalized several times during her detention, and her family is increasingly concerned about not being able to have visitors or communicate with her.

Maryam Mehrabi was arrested on June 18, 2024, and all her electronic devices, including mobile phones and laptops, were confiscated. Mahan Mehrabi, the sister of Mahmoud Mehrabi, announced on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, that her sister Maryam Mehrabi had gone on a hunger strike and was in solitary confinement.

Maryam Mehrabi is a teacher and lives in Isfahan. She is also the mother of two young children. The accusation against this political prisoner is that she was active on the Internet and spread information about her brother. Mahmoud Mehrabi was arrested in connection with the nationwide protests in 2022 and sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court in Isfahan for “corruption on earth”.
